~ Guiding the Art of Digital StoryTelling into Classrooms World Wide~

  • Chair, Gwynn Moore, presently co-chair of ISTE Digital StoryTelling Network [DSN], over the past 22 years Gwynn has mainly taught 1st-5th grades, with teaching summer school for grades 6-12. The last 2 years she has been the Instructional Media/Technology Teacher at Aurora Frontier P-8 in Aurora Colorado, teaching students 5-8 and co-teaching/coaching grades K-4. For 10 years she worked in a dominate ELL school with grades K-5 with Spanish being the dominate non-English Language. She also works with many African and Asian refugee students. Learning to Integrate technology across the curriculum has led Gwynn to share her learning and passion for technology and Second Language Learners through presentations on a variety of topics which have earned her recognition and training certifications. She is also Chair of her local teachers association AEA 9/27/2015 ISTE 2016 Technology Integration Caucus. Gwynns many professional presentations include CO InnEdCo conferences: 2010-2013, ISTE: 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015; SD-TIE, CO CCRIA: 2008- 2015; and ITEC 2009. Recognitions: 2011 Microsoft Innovative Educator, Microsoft Certified Teacher, Google Level 1 Certified Teacher, Tech4 Learning Innovative Educator, Discovery Education-Colorado Leadership Council, Events Coordinator, and a Discovery Star Educator.

  • In-Coming Chair, Tara Waudby, passionate about innovation in education, Tara is committed to increasing meaning and relevance in schools. Tara began her teaching career in Phoenix, Arizona before moving into international education. Currently in Saudi Arabia, she previously taught for five years in Taiwan, ten years in Kuwait and spent her childhood in Sweden. Tara has served in numerous roles including assistant superintendent for learning, high school principal, assistant principal, professional development coordinator, ESL coordinator and a teacher of special education, ESL and secondary English. She holds an MA in Educational Leadership, an MFA in Poetry, and a graduate certificate in educational technology. Her research interests include building collaborative cultures, digital literacy, mission-driven schooling and systems development. Currently, she volunteers for ISTE as the Chair Elect of the Digital Storytelling Network, COETAIL as a learning coach, and NESA as a member of the Professional Development Advisory Committee. Through her blog consider another truth, she explores the gray matter of education.

  • Outgoing Chair, Julie Jaeger is a Gifted and Talented instructor at Minot Public Schools (ND) and currently co-chair of ISTE’s Digital StoryTellig Network [DSN] and ND FableVision Learning Ambassador as well as Past President of ND Association for Gifted Children. She worked with Bernajean Porter in the development of the I-imagine:Taking My Place in the World project and was published in ISTE’s Learning and Leading magazine. She was named TTI Teacher of the Year, MPS Teacher of Year and received the 2016 Digital StoryTelling Creativity Leadership award. She provides professional development opportunities throughout ND and a multi-state region as well as providing PD webinars for the ISTE Professional Learning Series and the Digital StoryTelling Network Webinar Series. A veteran elementary and middle school educator, technology integrator and gifted instructor, she enjoys bringing “a-ha” moments and higher order thinking to educators and students in the areas of Technology integration, Differentiated instruction, Digital StoryTelling, and Curriculum Enrichment via Higher Order Thinking, Problem Solving and Questioning Strategies.

  • Conni Mulligan is an Instructional Technology Facilitator for Buncombe County Schools in Asheville, North Carolina, DENbassador, DEN GURU, Intel Master Trainer, QTL Instructor, STAR Discovery Educator, Fablevision Ambassador and Puppeteer. She collaborates with K-12 administrators and teachers across curricular areas focusing on seamless technology integration and has spent time as a classroom teacher in the elementary and middle school levels, as well as, an adjunct faculty member for a local college and community college. She has also provided various staff development workshops at her local NCTIES conference and many other state conferences in North America. In her spare time, she works with the Asheville Puppetry Alliance where she enjoys creating, performing and promoting the art and craft of puppetry.

  • Mardi Hagar is currently a middle school reading intervention and digital storytelling teacher. She has been at the middle school level for nine years. Before that she was at the elementary level as a teacher, reading specialist and a site coordinator for nine years. She sees herself as a learner and takes every opportunity given to her to continue to grow as an educator and digital storyteller. She has several certificates in administration, reading specialist, GATE, ESL, early childhood, and elementary education. She grew up in a small town in Montana. Upon entering college she met her husband who was also studying to be a teacher. After the birth of their two sons they moved to California, so that they both could get teaching jobs. Currently she is working on becoming a Google Certified Teacher, and pursuing her passion on bringing digital storytelling to her students and others. She believes that showing her students that changing the way that they think, anything is possible!

  • Sandra Paetkau, when not doing half pipes on her quad in the desert, is the Digital Learning Coach at a British school in Saudi Arabia. She is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Educator and an experienced classroom teacher with 19 years’ worth of classroom stories to share. Her areas of expertise include English, Theatre, Film Studies, and pen twirling. The great moments of her day are spent helping teachers redesign their classes to include effective technology integration, problem based learning, media rich projects, or online collaborative processes. Online collaboration is one of Sandra’s fortes and she is particularly excited to share with teachers how their students can use online collaboration to create powerful projects and stories.

  • Danielle Abernethy fell in love with the ancient art of storytelling around the campfires when her father was stationed in Germany. She is a former teacher and Instructional Technology Coach from Sumter, SC. While there she served on the state technology standards committee, participated in with Scholastic projects, was named a Tech4Learning Innovative Educator, presented at South East state conferences and ISTE, was an INTEL Master Teacher and was a DEN Member. During this time she also became interested in Digital Storytelling and was even honored with a scholarship from the Discovery Educator Network to attend a one day workshop with Bernajean Porter at T+L in 2005. She then moved to Florida 10 years ago to help grow the North Florida Discovery Educator Network, continuing to share her love of digital storytelling possibilities and creative technology in the classroom. She now works for Tech4Learning as the Integration Specialist, volunteers with SC’s Future Business Leaders of America, and continues to foster her love for creativity blooming in the classroom. Danielle holds a Masters Degree in Educational Technology from Lesley University.

  • Leslie Fagin is an Instructional Technology Coach for the Griffin-Spalding County School System in Georgia where she works with secondary school teachers on integrating technology tools such as Google Apps for Education, digital storytelling, and digital citizenship. As a former English teacher, she taught middle school Language Arts and Reading as well as all levels of English in high school including college prep and honors English for grades 9 - 12, Creative Writing, and Journalism. She earned a BA in Political Science and an MS in Rural and Small Town Planning from the University of West Georgia and certification in Administration and Supervision. Leslie is a Google for Education Certified Trainer and a Google Certified Educator Level 2.

  • Erin Olson accepted a position with Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency as an Instructional Technology Consultant after teaching middle school language arts for three years at Storm Lake St. Mary’s and high school English for seven years in the Sioux Central school district. Erin has served on the Board of Directors for the student advocacy group, Iowa Student Learning Institute since its creation. She has been active in numerous state-level initiatives, including teacher evaluation reform and Iowa Communities of Practice. Erin’s work has been featured and discussed in the New York Times. She has been nationally recognized for her work as a connected educator, including being named in 2012 as one of the connected educators that the New York Times Learning Network admires. Creator of the genius hour project, Read, Be Inspired, Do Something Inspiring, Erin presents regularly about the importance of empowering students through service and about eliminating learning barriers through global classroom connections. Erin bridges the worlds of technology and literacy to facilitate greater student voice and choice. In 2015, Erin was honored by ITEC with the State Technology Leadership Award. Erin advocates for the power of student contribution, explaining, “I do not want my students to be the best in the world, I want them to be the best FOR the world.”

  • Vicki Treadway, a former preschool and elementary school teacher, has served as an Instructional Technology Specialist for 20 years. She is a former Classrooms for the Future Coach for the state of PA. Vicki is currently an Elementary Technology Coach for the Conestoga Valley School District in Lancaster, PA. She is a Keystone Technology Innovator and a Bloxels Ambassador. She has presented at many local, state and international conferences. Vicki loves sharing her passion for technology with students and teachers. She hopes to encourage girls into persuing a field in technology.

  • Founder-Bernajean Porter, founder and past co-chair of ISTE Digital StoryTelling Network [DSN], is a digital educator, works globally as a futurist enticing educators and their communities into new stories of possibilities. She is a seasoned international professional speaker, author of **DigiTales ~ The Art of Digital StoryTellling**, strategic conniver, media maker,debate coach, online teacher of teachers, workshop leader, H.E.A.T. maker, futuring coach- co-authoring with Julie Jaeger **I-imagine: Taking My Place in the World** . . . an eternal enthusiastic promoter of ANYTHING increasing joy, spirit and outrageous possibilities in all aspects of life for kids and adults and presently discovering. . . a passion for digital storytelling's KLOUT in the world. Bernajean was awarded ISTE's "Making AT Happen" pink jacket as a treasured collegial honor in 2010. Along with being a renowned avatar educator [Bernajena], she can be found teaching and learning in 3D virtual worlds as well as an instructor for a series of online courses engaging global educators in either as stand-alone courses or when taken in total culminating in a university sponsored multimedia certificate called "The Art of MultiMedia Communication and Digital Storytelling." When it comes to doing the hard or impossible things now necessary in schools to ensure all students are prepared to literally inherit the earth, Bernajean's personal motto of "Da Um Jeitinho" - there is ALWAYS a way - let's make IT happen together - sets the tone for her dedicated long-term work with educators in service to all kids across the globe.
